3Chat.ai × Shopify Installation Guide

Before you start

Please make sure:

  1. You have a Shopify store admin account with permission to install apps and edit the theme.
  2. Each Shopify store can be connected to only one 3Chat Workspace. If your 3Chat account has multiple Workspaces, you’ll choose the one to connect during setup.
  3. Your store uses an Online Store 2.0 theme (most modern themes do). This app enables the storefront chat widget via Theme App Extensions / App Embed.

Step 1: Open the Shopify setup guide in 3Chat and install the app from the Shopify App Store

  1. Log in to the 3Chat admin dashboard

    • Path 1: Left menu → Channel → Shopify → Install Guide
    • Path 2: Left menu → Shopify (open the page directly)
  2. In the Shopify setup guide, click: Go to Shopify App Store

Note for reviewers / current status:
Since the app is still under Shopify review, the App Store page may appear as a preview (not publicly accessible). Reviewers can access and install it through the link provided in the review process.

  1. Log in to your Shopify store admin, then click Install on the app install page.

Step 2: Approve permissions in Shopify and complete installation (redirects back to 3Chat)

  1. After clicking Install, Shopify will show the permissions (scopes) page.
  2. Review and approve the permissions, then click Install / Install app.
  3. Once installed, Shopify will automatically redirect you to the 3Chat login page (this is expected behavior).

Step 3: Sign up or log in to 3Chat

On the 3Chat login page:

  • If you already have a 3Chat account: Log in
  • If you don’t have a 3Chat account: Sign up by following the on-screen steps

After a successful login, you’ll be taken to the next step automatically.


Step 4: Select the 3Chat Workspace to connect

If your account has multiple Workspaces, you will see a Workspace selection page:

  1. Select the Workspace you want to connect to this Shopify store
  2. Continue to enter the Workspace

Tip: A Shopify store can be connected to only one Workspace. If you selected the wrong Workspace, uninstall the app in Shopify Admin and reinstall it to connect the correct Workspace.


Step 5: Follow the Shopify integration wizard in 3Chat to enable the storefront chat widget

After choosing a Workspace, you will be redirected to the Shopify Integration Wizard in 3Chat.

5.1 Open the Shopify Theme Editor

Click: Go to Shopify Theme Editor
This will open the Shopify Theme Editor.

5.2 Enable the 3Chat App Embed (Important)

In the Theme Editor:

  1. Open App embeds
  2. Find 3Chat.ai Live Chat
  3. Make sure the toggle is ON, then click Save

5.3 Open your storefront and activate the widget

Back in the 3Chat wizard:

  1. Click Go to your website to open your storefront (e.g., xxxx.myshopify.com or your custom domain)
  2. Find the 3Chat live chat widget in the bottom-right corner
  3. Open the chat widget once (for initial activation/verification)

Why do I need to open it once?
This confirms the widget is loaded successfully on your storefront and completes the initial availability check.

5.4 Confirm the installation status in 3Chat

When everything is set up correctly, you should see:

  • :white_check_mark: 3Chat Live Chat widget is installed properly on {shopDomain}
  • Status: Connected

Setup is now complete.


How to verify the installation (for reviewers)

  1. Open any storefront page and confirm the chat widget appears in the bottom-right corner
  2. Send a test message (e.g., “Hi”)
  3. In 3Chat → Inbox, confirm the message is received and a conversation is created
  4. In 3Chat → Shopify setup page, confirm the status is Connected and the store information is displayed
